The Effect of Green Tea Enriched with Catechin and Inulin on Both Diabetic and Obese Rats
Nashwa Fadel Farid Abd-Allah Salem;
Abstract
Obesity and diabetes mellitus are important public health concerns throughout the
world because of their increasing incidence and prevalence. Recent studies showed that
the adipocyte-specific hormone, adiponectin, is reduced in obese individuals and
associated with lower cardiovascular and diabetes risks.
A wide variety of therapeutic agents in modern medicine are available for the
treatment of hyperlipidemia. However, most hypolipidemic drugs cause potentially
serious side effects, and include digestive disturbances, nausea and vomiting. Regular
usage of many herbs has been recommended in the management of hyperlipidemia.
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of Green tea enriched with Catechin and
Inulin on:
Lipid fractions (total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, LDL
cholesterol and VLDL cholesterol, HDL \ LDL ratio) in blood serum of the
experimental rats.
Serum Glucose.
Body weight gain.
Kidney function test in serum.
Liver function test in serum.
Relative weight of some organs and Feed intake.
Adiponectin and leptin in blood serum.
Histopathological characteristics of some organs in the experimental rats.
Eighty male Albino rats were purchased from the National Research Center, Dokki, Giza,
Egypt. Every five rats placed in a cage and a well-ventilated and be weights 180 g ± 10 g
and then we feed the rats on the basal diet processed in the lab for a week so get used to it.
