Role of Magnetic Resonance defecography in assessment of pelvic floor dysfunction
Marwa Sayed Mohammed Moussa;
Abstract
MR defecography is an essential method in the evaluation of pelvic floor dysfunction especially in complex multicompartment involvement, enterocele detection and post-operative cases.
As abnormalities of the three pelvic compartments are frequently associated, so a whole review of the entire pelvis is needed before surgical repair.
MR defecography findings were superior and sensitive compared to clinical examination in the staging of pelvic organ prolapse is generally good in this study.
MRI offers excellent soft tissue contrast to confirm adequate diagnosis of the muscular and fascial defects responsible for pelvic floor dysfunction.
MR defecography is a valuable suggested approach allows incorporation of static and dynamic MR imaging findings so that clinicians can exactly identify the underlying anatomic defect responsible for symptoms in individual patients with pelvic floor dysfunction (even allowing differentiation of the underlying anatomic defect when patients have the same symptoms) and can thus choose on a more tailored treatment of the underlying abnormality and so help perform site specific repair in surgery, to avoid the high recurrence rates.
