EFFECT OF ULTR SONIC WAVES ON •CERTAIN PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES OF Arachis hypogaea SEEDLINGS.
HANAN EL-SAYED DAIF;
Abstract
The aim of the present work is to study the effect of ultrasonication on germination of peanut seeds and the metabolic changes in seedlings as well as peanut cell suspension culture.
Results were summarized as follows:-
1- Ultrasonication generally affect germination of peanut seeds and the maximum reduction at short exposure.
2- Ultrasonic treated seeds were found to be markedly decreased in its water contents especially in those treated at short exposure as being compared with the untreated seeds.
3- Ultrasonication showed little effect on the polysaccharide and total sugar
contents ofthe treated peanut seedlings, while it induced a marked decrease
r in sucrose and reducing sugars content as compared with those of the
. untreated seedlings.
4- Data explained that, total soluble nitrogen as well as total nitrogen of peanut seedlings and cultured cells decreased by exposure to ultrasonic waves, while soluble protein increased as compared with untreated seedlings.
5- Data indicated that, the free amino acids content of peanut seedlings were quantitatively and qualitatively affected by exposure to ultrasonic waves, the reduction increased with increasing time of exposure from 15 to 60 minutes.
6- Nucleic acid contents of peanut seedlings were markedly reduced by exposure to ultrasonic waves and the reduction increased with increasing time of exposure from 15 to 60 minutes, moreover DNA was more affected than RNA.
