IMPROVING ROUGHAGES FEEDING VALUES BY USING OF FUNGAL TREATMENT IN NORTH AFRICA

Khaled Mohamed Abdou Hassan El-Gamal;

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the nutnt1ve value of peanut hulls, sugar cane bagasse, linseed hulls and linseed straw by fungal treatments using Trichoderma reesei F-616, T. harzianum F-416, T. viride F-614 and yeast of Saccharomyces cerevisiae F-25, after selecting the proper fungi for the agricultural by-product, and determination the suitable fermentation period for each tested by product with selected fungi. Also to investigate the effect of feeding biologically treated by-product oil feed intake, nutrients digestion coefficients, nutritive value, nitrogen balance and some rumen liquor and blood parameters.
Nine digestibility trials were carried out with twenty-seven Ossimi rams (three in each trail). The animals were fed on .the following rations: The 1'\ 3'ct, 5th and 7th groups 100% of energy and crude protein requirements (according to NRC, 1985) was covered from concentrate feed mixture (CFM) and untreated peanut hulls, sugar cane bagasse, linseed hulls and linseed straw, respectively were offered ad-lib. which served as comparison. While the 2"ct, 41h, 6th and
8'h groups received 50% of requirements from CFM and peanut hulls, sugar cane bagasse, linseed hulls and linseed straw treated by T. viride, T. viride, T. harzianum and T. reesei, respectively, were offered ad-lib. The 9th group received 100% of requirements from CFM and berseem hay offered ad.lib. to determine nutrients digestibility of CFM by difference method.
The results indicated that, the suitable fungi for biological
treatment of peanut hulls, sugar cane bagasse, linseed hulls and linseed straw were T. viride, T. viride, T. harzianum and T. reesei, respectively. The proper fermentation periods were 8, 7, 6 and 6 days, respectively for the tested roughages.
The content of OM and CF of all treated by-product were decreased compared with untreated, while content of CP, EE and ash were increased compared with untreated.
