ARTHROSCOPIC AND PATHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS OF SYNOVITIS ASSOCIATED TRAUMATIC KNEE LESIONS

Amr Eid Darwish;

Abstract

Human joints are subjected to injury. Depending on the intensity and extent of the damage inflicted, symptoms and disordered function follow. After minor injury there may at first be no apparent effect, yet after a period of time weeks or months symptoms may become manifest, and may progress.. (W. Klein et al, 1978).
Because the changes of the synovial membrane observed in such a cases may be reasonably considered aslate complication to trauma they are designated post-traumatic sunovitis.(W. Klein et al, .1978).
The incident changes were considered by Roux (1895), to be an irritative infiltration of the synovial membrane. Patry (1926), supported this view. Bircher (1933), and Estor (1934) pointed out the regularly ocurring alterations of the synovial membrane, and interpreted them as late reactions of the synovial membrane to injuries of old standing.Soeur (1949) analysed the changes of the synovial membrane in correlation to the lapse of time since the . injury; he regarded stratification of the synoviocyte layer, increase in the number of the villi, sclerosis of the •. wall of blood vessels, and scant infiltration by inflammatory cells aprominent features 111 late traumatic synovitis.(Kinsella, T. D., et al 1970).
