Abstract


Social networks and social media websites have led to a significant change in the awareness of youth regarding various political, economic and social issues such as (citizenship and extremism).Such outlets have both positive and negative aspects in presenting social issues as they contribute to shaping the awareness of university youth towards these issues. Therefore, the problem of the research was identified in the following main question:
What is the role played by new media in shaping the awareness of social issues, especially citizenship and extremism, from the point of view of university youth?
Second: Research Objectives:
Given the aforementioned, the objectives of the research were identified as follows:
1. Defining the concept of new media as well as its most important characteristics, its different components and its various social impacts on university youth.
2. Identifying how university youth use new media and the habits of their exposure to modern methods in terms of the allocated time and the nature of dealing with such methods.
3. Recognizing the relative weight of awareness of social issues and the role played by new media in highlighting them for university youth, as well as the awareness related to the two issues of research (citizenship and extremism).
