Abstract


Head injury is the ITiost frequent cause of morbidity and mottality among pediatrics, often resulting in permanent disability forthose who survive.
Skull fractures are generally classified as linear or depressed. Linear fracture is the n1ost commonest type and occur mainly in pediattic. According to sex, males more affected than females.
According.. to mechanisms of injury, falling had a high proportioi1 than other types and also shO\ved better outcome.
Neurological examination remain the most important factor in rapid assessment of the extent and severity of injury and is of vital importance in subsequent 111onitoring of improvement or deterioration of the neurological status.
Level of consciousness is best assessed using Glasgow coma scale. The higher the G.C.S. the better the prognosis.
Plaii1 films are the best means of demonstrating the cause and the extent of fracture of cranial va Iut.
C.T. has become indispensable for the evaluation of acute head
injury. Repeated C.T. scan clearly demonstrate the formation of new intracranial Ies ion.
Patients with surgically evacuated mass lesion according to C.T. brain show good outcome while those presented by diffuse injury in C.T. scan incorporated with bad clinical picture showed bad prognosis.
