Abstract


The study was carried to evaluate and compare the effect of immediate socket shield insertion technique and delayed implant placement technique on the supporting structures of two conventional implants retaining lower complete overdenture.
Twelve patients with completely edentulous maxillary arch while mandibular arch was either edentulous (for six patients) or had bilateral standing canines indicated for extraction (for six patients). six of them have only lower canines indicated for extraction were selected from the outpatient clinic, removable prosthodontics department, Faculty of Dentistry, Ain Shams University to participate in this study.
Patients were precisely selected and thoroughly examined in an attempt to reduce human variables and eliminate any factor that might adversely affect the results of this study.
Patients were rehabilitated by mucosa supported maxillary complete denture and two implant retained mandibular overdenture following the two stage surgical technique. According to the presence of or absence of the bilateral canines and technique of implant placement,the patients were divided into two equal groups
