A THESIS FOR PARTIAL FULFILMENT OF MSC DEGREE IN RADIO-DIAGNOSIS "Value of DW MRI of pancreatic tumors, correlation with enhanced MRI"
AHMED MUDHAFAR KADHIM ALSAEEDI;
Abstract
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most fatal cancers. Stage of the disease greatly affects the prognosis of the disease that makes early diagnosis crucial in the management of pancreatic cancers. Conventional MRI with contrast enhancement is the routine MRI protocol. However, contrast administration is invasive and time-consuming in addition to the adverse effects of contrast. Also, many cancer patients have already impaired renal functions. With the development of high field magnets and great advances in functional MRI, DWI is increasingly used as in the detection and characterization of abdominal tumours.
Aim of the work:
In view of an increasing use of MRI application in diagnosis and management of the pancreatic tumors, the purpose of our study is to illustrate the value of DW MRI in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and to correlate the results of DW MRI with that of contrast enhanced MRI aiming to use DWI MRI as a reasonable alternative modality especially when contrast administration is contraindicated.
