Effect of Crystallization on Translucency of Zirconia Reinforced Lithium Silicate

Maryam Ali Alsaeidi;

Abstract

New generation of high strength glass ceramics material was used in this study zirconia- reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) Celtra Duo from Dentsply which is a glass ceramic enriched with zirconia (10% by weight) it is finally crystallized ceramic material(tooth colored material) that has unique microstructure Celtra Duo is the only glass ceramic material that can be processed with two different ways either milled and polished or milled and fired, this material combines high flexural strength as it reinforced with zirconia and high glass contact resulting in beautiful natural looking and translucency. Translucency is critical for matching of neighboring teeth and for natural appearance. Translucency of a material depends on the transmission of light but not scattering, therefore translucency became one of the primary factors in controlling esthetics and is a critical consideration in selection of materials.
