HYPERTENSION AS A CAUSE OF AND-STAGE RENAL DISEASE

Neveen Farouk Tammam;

Abstract

• 6.7% of ESRD patients under regular hemodialysis in Egypt have hypertensive nephrosclerosis as a cause ofrenal failure. This indicate that hypertensive nephrosclerosis was
over estimated in Egypt in the I 51 (28%) and 2"d Almual
report (19.6%).
• Helpful criteria for diagnosis of hypertensive nephrosclerosis should be applied to ascertain the diagnosis of hypertensive nephrosclerosis.
• Hypertensive nephrosclerosis is more common in older age group with a mean age of about 53 ± 10
•Hypertension was more conunon in males (62%) than females (37.9%).
• Smoking has no relation to hypertensive kidney disease.
• Renovascular diseases. were not estimated in this study.
• Unknown etiology is responsible for 23.8% of cases of CRF and this ratio is relatively high, so we need to do more renal biopsies early in course of the diseases to defme the
• cause and need also to look for sources of environmental toxins (water pollution, air pollution, etc.).
