Abstract

Summary:

In this research, for the first time in the world, cement kiln dust (CKD) was transformed to lightweight aggregate. Thermally treated CKD was used to enhance the cementitious properties of CKD and to activate the geopolymerization reaction. Slag was used to strengthen the mix while air entraining agent was used to produce air bubbles to achieve the lightweight. A new test to measure the fracture work of the aggregate particles was introduced for the first time. A comprehensive description for the production technology of LWA are carried out and reported. Two pending patents No. 106 – 2018 and No. 639 – 2018 were introduced concerning the subject.
