Abstract


R
espiratory Intensive Care Unit RICU is specialized for monitoring and treatment of patient with acute respiratory failure due to primary respiratory cause and of patient with acute on top of chronic respiratory failure.
It aims to provide respiratory support and constant haemodynamic and respiratory monitoring in presence of high quality nursing care, humidification, Physiotherapy, continuous changing of the Position of patient, Pharmacological adjuncts and Sedation if needed.
This retrospective study was done to study and analyze the characteristics, ICU course and of outcome patients admitted to the respiratory intensive care unit of Zagazig Chest Hospital in 2016.
After the patients had been resuscitated and stabilized, they were subjected to history taking, clinical examination, investigations (lab, ECG, imaging and pulmonary function) and treatment (O2 therapy, NIMV, IMV, pharmacological treatment and physiotherapy).
Also patients were assessed for severity and mortality prediction by using APACHE II score.
