Amr Ahmed Mahmoud Abdel-Kader;

Abstract

The current work studies IL-17A as a marker of severity of sepsis in poly-trauma patients. It also studies the correlation between IL17-A and acute kidney injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome and mortality in poly-trauma patients. Out of 100 patients enrolled in the study 16 died within 28 days of ICU admission, and 84 survived.Twenty-eight of the 100 patients had sepsis and 72 did not. While 19 patients had septic shock and 81 did not. A serum sample was obtained from each patient during the first 24 hours of ICU admission, and the samples were analyzed for IL-17A. And the patients were monitored for diagnostic criteria of sepsis, septic shock, acute kidney injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Multiple organ dysfunction score was calculated for each patient daily, and the highest scores for each patient were used for statistical associations.
