Bioremediation of heavy metals polluted soil and its impact on Phaseolus vulgaris L.

Abstract


Inthe present study two concentrations of Asp. niger were used to investigate their ability to take uplead from polluted soil in Al-Gabal Al-Asfar Farm, and to test their impact for alleviation of Pb toxicity of Phaseolus vulgaris plant cultivated in the polluted soil. The results obtained revealed that:
1. Both treatments of the fungus caused noticeable decrease in Pb content of the treated polluted soil.
2. Both treatments of the fungus induced significant increase in growth rates, pigments content, metabolites contents (carbohydrates and proteins)
3. The lower concentration of the fungus decreased antioxidant enzyme activities (polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase, catalase and superoxide dismutase) and antioxidant compounds contents (glutathione, ascorbic acids and polyphenls), on the other hand, the higher concentration of the fungus caused slight increase of both antioxidants (enzymes activities and compounds contents)
4. Both fungus concentrations reduced Pb content in seeds of bean plants cultivated in the treated soil compared to untreated ones.

5. The treatment with the lower concentration and the higher concentration of the fungus increased K, P, Ca and Mg concentrations in the roots and shoots of Phaseolus vulgaris, whileFe and Zn concentrations differed with the treatment of both concentrations of the fungus.
