B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) and Troponin I (TnI) As Possible Predictive Biomarkers for Cardiotoxicity Induced by Tricyclic Antidepressant and Antipsychotics Overdose

Aya Sabry Mohamed Mohamed;

Abstract

ardiotoxic exposure is a major health problem in Egypt. Tricyclic antidepressant and Antipsychotic drugs are well known to have a cardiotoxic effect. To overcome it, prediction and early diagnosis should be boosted by well-assessed clinical and investigational means. In this context, history, examination, ECG, and conventional cardiac markers are, without doubt, of great value. Nonetheless, each has its own disadvantages which limit its usefulness; and hence the gaps should be filled by introducing newer markers and/or integrating all these modalities into one system with accuracy higher than each one individually.
