PHYSICO-CHEMICAL STUDIES ON SOME AZOQUINOLINE DERIVATIVES AND THEIR METAL COMPLEXES

Mohamed Mohamed Mahmoud EI-Sayed;

Abstract

The studies of azo compounds grained much attention< 1lbecause of their use as models of biological systems. Generally, the understanding of the biologically action of a molecule requires a chemical and physicochemical knowledge of the molecule. The majority of biologically active compounds reveals their activities by weak and reversible bonding such as hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic bonding, electrostatic and Van der Waals interaction with biological constituents. The importancy is directed with a number of important biological reactions such as protein synthesis, inhibition, carcmogenests, thioldisulphide interchange, azo reduction, monoamme oxidase inhibition, immuno chemical affinity labelling, nitrogen fixation and antibacterial agent. Some azo. dyes when orally administrated gave rise to the aromatic amines through reductive fission of the azo link<,ge. The azo dyes available today are characterized by the water solubilizing substituent -S03Na on the azo benzene ring and susceptible to azo reduction as the principle metabolic step(t) The introduction of a water soluble substituent makes it easier to detoxify azo compounds<2 ) For the purpose of safe usage. it is essential to study the metabolic reactions as well as the biological effects of the dyes and their metabolites<")
