“Effect of Eucalyptus Oil and 5-Fluorouracil on Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cell Line” In-Vitro Study
Aisha Abubaker Ali Shanan;
Abstract
Oral Squamous cell carcinoma remains the most common malignancy in the oral cavity, accounting for over 90% of malignant oral cancer. The high incidence of OSCC attributed to different risk factors including the bad habits of tobacco use, alcohol intake, and betel quid (15).
There are many treatment plans for OSCC including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. The mainstay of treatment for OSCC is frequently surgery. Radiotherapy following surgery is a regular procedure for OSCC (27, 28). Regardless of the truth that the regular treatment for OSCC is thought to be surgical excision, surgeons frequently decide on chemotherapy for patients with advanced or recurrent OSCC. Although it is frequently not a curative when done alone for OSCC, it can be used before surgical therapy or along with post-surgical radiotherapy (chemoradiotherapy) (29, 30).
