The Effect of Using a Suggested Programme to Develop Question Formation Skills Among Second Year Preparatory Stage Pupils

Samah Hamdy Ahmed;

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the effectiveness of the programme to develop question formation skills among second year preparatory stage pupils. The researcher noticed that most pupils were unable to form questions, to ask and answer in the real situations. Eighty female pupils of second year preparatory stage have been chosen as the subjects for the present study. They were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control one. The experimental group was trained in the skills of question formation. The researcher prepared two different tools: a suggested programme to develop question formation skills and a question formation pre-post test. To answer the research questions and test its hypotheses, the researcher used the "t" test and Blake's Modified Gain Ratio. The following results were reached:

1. The experimental group subjects showed high gains on a pre post test comparison as well as high superiority over the control group on a post-test comparison. Thus, in the light of these results the suggested programme was found to be effective in developing some of the second year preparatory stage pupils' question formation skills.

2. The control group subjects did not show significant improvement in question formation skills.

3. The suggested question formation programme had significant effect on developing the question formation skills of the second year preparatory stage pupils.
