Abstract

This is a • comparative study on the eros1ve effect of some beverages on the dental enamel, composite resin, glass-ipnomer and polyacid modified resin composite. 'The surface micro hard\1ess of these materials was assessed after immersion in test beverages as a measure for the erosive effect of the beverages on the tested enamel and the tested anterior restorative material using Vickers' hardness testing.

360 spec1mens of human enamel, glass-ionomer, composite and compomer were prepared and mounted in acrylic blocks. Mkro hardness was measured before and after immersion in the test beverages. Antiacid treatment, amse drink and cantaloupe juice were used as alkaline beverages while cola drink and lemon juice were used as acidic beverages. The specimens were divided into 4 groups. Eac)1 group was divided to five subgroups according to the test beverages used. Each subgroup was again divided to three smaller groups according to the frequency of immersions as one immersion per day, five imp1ersions per day and ten immersions per day. Five specimens were used ip each group of the study (n-5).
