SEWAGE WATER REUSE POLICIES AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT OF GROUNDWATER

MAHER ABDEL HALIM EL SHEWY;

Abstract

In this work, experiments are carried out to identify the conditions that are suitable for the implementation of artificial recharge based on treated domestic wastewater. Chapter One is an introduction to the work, highlighting the need for reusing each drop of water to satisfy the country' increasing demand on water.

Chapter Two is a literature review on the possible means of reusing wastewater, both direct and indirect as well as results of national experiments and experiences. In Chapter Three, an effort is made to develop criteria for the selection of suitable sites for artificial recharge in Egypt. Criteria considers also the demand on retrieved water.

Chapter Four contains the description of the experiment carried out near Abu Rawash treatment plant, including the design components. Chapter Five contains the results of data analyses, including infiltration rates under various operation schemes. Finally, Chapter Six contains the conclusions and recommendations for further work.
