Abstract


1522 was the total number of patients with head injuries in this study, they were all •admitted in the emergency departments of Alexandria
University teaching hospital.

The age incidence showed a peak at the age group between 5-25 years where it accounted to 43%, and that males to females ratio was 2.61:1.



The seasonal variation in head injury was markedly noticed. There was increase incidence in the summer months as May-June more than winter months as January, February.



The time of admission showed a high rise in the afternoon shift between 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. (53%) followed by the morning shift 8 am. - 2 p.m. (29%).



Head injury causes varied fonn road traffic accident which was the most common by 58.87%, followed by accidental falls that accounted to
29.79% than followed by other causes as alleged assault and falling of objects on the head and missile head injury which accounted for 11.34%.
