RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POSTNATAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE PARANASAL SINUSES AND SKULL GROWTH BY RADIOLOGICAL STUDY

Abstract

Development of the paranasal sinuses studed by many authers and anatomic variations were estated.
In Egypt we have no basic measures for the Egyptian paranasal diameters. So, we think in this study to make a relationship between skull diameters (cephalic index) and paranasal sinus diameters (length, width and depth).
In this work we study eighty children (40 males and 40 females). These children divided into four groups according to age, each group contain ten males and ten females.
Each child examined clinically to exclude paranasal sinuse diseases and radiologically by using computed tomography to obtain the occipitoglamellar diameter and Bi-parital diameter and cephalic index is given by the equation
Bi-parital diameter
Occip to-glamcllar diameter
:\ I00
Statistical analysis is done for different variables in relation to sex and age using student "t" test.
From student "t" test we do:
1- Comparison between paranasal sinuses variables in males and females.
2- Comparison between paranasal sinuses variables in both sides of females.
