PLASMA ZINC IN RELATION TO HYPERPROLACTINEMIA IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC RENAL INSUFFICIENCY

AI Said AI Said AbdelKader Maklad;

Abstract

Decrease of free plasma zinc levels has been implicated in the increase in serum prolactin levels seen in patients with chronic renal insufficiency

This study was conducted on 30 male patients, suffering from chronic renal failure treated with hemodialysis, in order to assess the change of plasma zinc by using atomic absorption technique and serum prolactin by using chemiluminescence technique in patients group in comparison to control group.

Significant differences regarding both plasma zinc and serum prolactin were found between both groups. As there is a decrease in plasma zinc level and increase in prolactin hormone level in patient group compared with control group. Also, strong negative correlation was found between both analytes in patients group.
