Adaptive Control of Power System Using FACTS Devices

Abstract
The main purpose of this thesis is to present a novel robust Dead Zone adaptive controller in order to enhance the dynamic stability and improve the tolerance of the output voltage for such a studied power system.
This is performed through using a FACTS device named as Static VAR Compensator (SVC).
The Dead Zone control technique is applied using either Quadratic Lyapunov Function (QLF) or Non Quadratic Lyapunov Function (NQLF) to a power system.
The power system model consists of synchronous generator with connected to shunt load through a transmission line and equipped with a FACTS device.
The proposed controller shows a good performance in enhancing the system
. response and damping the growing oscillations as well as improving the system transient oscillations in case of internal disturbances or changes in system parameters.
