Abstract
Empowered nurses with new ideas and innovative attributed may increase their abilities to respond more effectively to face extensive changes in current work environments. The present study was aiming to develop a training program for empowering nurses working at Ain Shams University Hospitals through: assessing the level of nurses' empowerment, identify factors that enhance and hinder nurses' empowerment, design an educational training program based on the identified training needs then implementing and evaluating the effect of this training program on nurses. A quasi experimental design was utilized to conduct this study at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The sample included 130 staff nurses and 58 head nurses working at the selected hospitals. Three tools were used for data collection; structural empowerment Questionnaire, Leader Empowering Behaviors Scale (LEBS) and Psychological Empowerment Scale. There was statistically significant improvement in nurse's knowledge after implementation of the program. The study recommended that the empowerment program for nurses be applied at all departments in assigned settings. In addition, planning for in-service training programs based on assessing nurses’ needs and motivating them to participate in these programs________________________________
