Abstract

In this paper the author explores identity and the otherness "within oneself", as a precise moment crystallized by authorial discourse in Moliere’s preface to Les Précieuses Ridicules. The author begins with an attempt to define the concept of identity, followed by a literature review of various works that shed light on this ambiguous concept. The author then analyzes Molière's authorial discourse with the aim of identifying this otherness that constitutes his very identity at the time of writing his preface.
