Self-Efficacy of Patients with Lower Limb Amputation: Nursing Guidelines

Abstract


Limb amputation is both a life saving procedure and a life-changing event. Individual responses to limb loss are varied and complex, and are influenced by a range of personal, clinical, social, physical and environmental factors. Aim: to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing guidelines on patient with lower limb amputation self-efficacy. Study design: a quasi-experimental study; Subject:A purposive sample of thirty (30) patients under going lower limb amputation was recruited from surgical units at Ain Shams University Hospital. Tools: Consisted of three Tool 1self-administered questionnaire consists of two parts:1Aconcerned with the demographic characteristics of patients ,1Bconcerned with patients’ knowledge regarding lower limb amputationTool2lower limb amputation patients’ performance observational checklist.Tool3Lower limb Amputation Self efficacy scale.Results this study showed that (66.7%)and respectively (93.3%) of the patients with lower limb amputation had unsatisfactory level of total knowledge and practice pre implementation of nursing guidelines which statistically significantly improved post the implementation respectively (80%)and (96.7%)as well as improvement of lower limb amputated patient self-efficacy with remarkable statistical significance post nursing guidelines implementation and evidenced by a positive correlation between all variables of the study with a statistical significance.Conclusion lower limb amputated patients are in need for information about their disease and its management. Inclusion of such information in a form of nursing guidelines improved their knowledge level and practical levels regarding their disabilities and consequently improving their self-efficacy.Recommendation the study recommended that conducting a standard rehabilitation programs to improve patients with lower limb amputation life style with prosthesis.
