Effect of Nursing Guidelines on Self Efficacy of Diabetic Patients at Risk for Peripheral Vascular Disorders

Abstract
Peripheral vascular disorders which is considered one of the most common and most dangerous of all complications occurring for the patients with diabetes mellitus. Aim to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing guidelines on self efficacy of diabetic patients at risk for peripheral vascular disorders. Study design: a quasi experimental study; Subject: A purposive subject of 75 patients from both gender was recruited from the out patients medicine clinics at Ain Shams University Hospital within six months. Tools:Consisted of four tools a) self-administered questionnaire consists of two parts: demographic characteristics of patients and patients’ knowledge regarding peripheral vascular disorders, b)patients’ performance observational checklist. c)Diabetes mellitus self-efficacy scale and d) peripheral vascular assessment sheet. Results: this study showed that (73.3%) and respectively (89.3%) of the patients diabetes mellitus had unsatisfactory level of total knowledge and practice pre implementation of nursing guidelines which statistically significantly improved post the implementation respectively (84%)and (90.7%) as well as improvement of diabetes mellitus patient self-efficacy with remarkable statistical significance post nursing guidelines implementation and evidenced by a positive correlation between all variables of the study with a statistical significance. Conclusion: this study concluded there was significance improvement in self efficacy of diabetic patients toward their physical, psychological, social and spiritual status post the nursing guidelines implementation. In addition the peripheral vascular assessment of them had significally higher score post the nursing guidelines implementation. Recommendation: the importance of conducting educational program about physical exercises for diabetic patients at risk for peripheral vascular disorders and it should be applied in all diabetic units in order to enhance self efficacy and improving peripheral vascular circulation for those patients.
