Relation between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Motivation among Graduating Nursing Students at The Faculty of Nursing-Ain Shams University

Abstract
Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Academic Motivation are the two concepts of higher interest in the modern educational environment. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to explore the relation between emotional intelligence and academic motivation among final year graduating nursing students. The study was conducted on "117" final year nursing students enrolled in the first semester of the academic year 2015-2016 at the Faculty of Nursing, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. Data was collected through two standardized tools, the first tool was consists of two parts; the first part was a structured questionnaire to assess the socio demographic characteristics of the students, the second part was the Emotional Intelligence Scale and the second tool was the Academic Motivation Scale, and when the dominant measures of academic motivation that is influence the academic achievement are the grades especially, College Grade Point Average (CGPA), it was used to detect students' achievement. The results were indicated that, there was a significant relation between emotional intelligence and academic motivation. The study also revealed that, the high percent of the students have a moderate level of emotional intelligence and academic motivation. The study recommends further researches to identify relation between emotional intelligence and clinical competencies of nursing students.
