Abstract

Higher education worldwide has been affected by many trends of transformation, such as massification, diversification, privatisation and internationalisation, which continue to place ongoing demands for quality reforms. In response, higher education institutions, locally and globally, are moving towards programmatic accreditation as a mechanism for enhancing the quality of their educational processes and outputs, ensuring the continuity of their development, and building up and strengthening confidence among beneficiaries and stakeholders in these academic programs via the standards and indicators used in the process of evaluation, as Standards should provide a means for transparently comparing academic programmes delivered by higher education providers. In this context, the current study aimed at developing and promoting academic programmes evaluation process through bringing forward a proposed perspective for programmatic accreditation standards and their frame of reference that can be adopted to review and update the current Egyptian standards.
The study relied on both the philosophical and the descriptive methods of research, whereas the fieldwork aimed at evaluating the current programmatic accreditation standards issued by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation, also questionnaire and structured interviews were conducted for data collection.
Finally, the study ended up with a proposed set of programmatic accreditation standards and their frame of reference via which these shortcomings can be confronted.
