Effect of Educational Guidelines on Self Care for Patients Post Kidney Transplantation

Abstract

Self-care for patient post kidney transplantation is very important to avoid late rejection episode, maintain patients' compliance with therapeutic management and improve quality of life. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of educational guidelines on self-care for patients post kidney transplation through the following: - 1- Assess the self-care for patients post kidney transplation.2-Develop and implementing self-care guidelines for patients based on need assessment. 3-Evaluate the effect of the educational guidelines on self-care for patients post kidney transplantation. Design: A quesi experimental design was used to utilize this study. Setting: The study was conducted at Kidney transplantation unit and nephrology and urology outpatient clinic at Nasser Institute hospital. Sample: Purposive sample composed of 60 patients from the previous mentioned setting divided into two groups. Tools: An interviewing questionnaire designed by the researcher to assess socio-demographic data, and medical history, II-Self-Care questionnaire to assess learning needs, III- observational checklist to assess self-care practice. Results: There was statistically significant differences between the study and control group regarding level of knowledge and practice related to self care post implementation of the educational guidelines, Conclusion: educational guidelines affect positively in self-care for patients post kidney transplantation through improve their self-care knowledge and self-care practice as well as there were highly statistically significant relation between total knowledge and total practice and self-care post implementation of self- care guidelines. Recommendations: Establishing a special educational program to provide patients with adequate knowledge and training to overcome patients' problems.
