Guidelines for Nurses Caring of Patients with Urinary Catheter: Bundle of Care

Abstract
Abstract
A catheter is defined as a drainage tube that is inserted into the bladder through the urethra, is left in place, and is connected to a closed drainage system, thus catheter-associated urinary tract infections are one of all nosocomial infections. A care bundle is a group of evidence-based practices that improve the quality of care when consistently applied to all patients. Guidelines are materials used to support education that may be freely accessed, reused, modified, and shared. Aim of the study: the study was aimed to evaluate the effect of guidelines for nurses caring for patients with urinary catheter bundle of care through: 1- Assessment of nurses' performance regarding urinary catheter bundle of care pre guidelines intervention. 2-Planning and implementing of guidelines for nurses caring for patients with urinary catheter bundle of care. 3- Evaluation of the effect of guidelines for nurses caring for patients with urinary catheter bundle of care. Study design: a quasi-experimental study was utilized in this study. Setting: the study was conducted at the ICU Units at EL Demerdash University Hospital. Subjects: A convenience sample of all available nurses working at ICU (30 nurses). Data collection: data were collected by four tools as follows: Socio-demographic characteristics sheet, Urinary catheter bundle knowledge sheet, Catheter associated urinary tract infection bundle of care checklist "CAUTI Bundle", and Arabic guidelines about urinary catheter bundle of care. Results: there were statistically significant differences regarding nurses' knowledge & practice post urinary catheter bundle of care guidelines implementation. The study concluded that: the guidelines affects positively on the nurses' knowledge and practice regarding urinary catheter care. The study recommended that: The importance of developing a course about CAUTI Bundle to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures and prevent urinary tract infection.
