Oxystegus (Limpr.) Hilp. is a difficult genus to deal with as it has mixed characters with other Trichostomoidae genera especially TrichostomumBruch. Recentlya molecular studydone by W erner segregated Oxystegusf rom Trichostomum and adopted movement of Trichostomum tenuirostristo Oxystegus.Oxystegus tenuirostris(Hook. & Taylor) A.J.E.Sm. “collected from Bani Suwayf governorate in the Nile Valley” represents the first record of this genus f rom Egypt. This record raises the number of moss taxa recorded f rom Egypt to 182, moss genera to 57 and the number of Pottiaceae taxa to 85. Description and illustrations of this new record together with geographic distribution and discussion are given.
