Role of Laparoscopy in Blunt Abdominal Trauma

Mostafa El Sayed Nagy;

Abstract

Minimally invasive surgical techniques are being increasingly utilized in every field of surgery. Laparoscopy has been associated with lower rates of morbidity and mortality in comparison with laparotomy, with lower rates of operative time, blood loss and transfusion, post operative pain, wound infections and length of hospital stay.
Laparoscopy is feasible and safe for the diagnosis and treatment of hemodynamically stable patients with blunt abdominal trauma and can reduce the laparotomy rate.
