Comparison of the Mini fntarnational Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) with the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI): In An Egyptian Sample Presenting with Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders

Ahmed Adel Ali AL-Behairy;

Abstract

Researchers typically use diagnosis interviews to accomplish three important goals: 1) to select a homogenous sample for study (e.g., in a study of a comparative treatment effectiveness for alcohol dependence, a diagnostic interview may be used to insure that all subjects meet the same diagnosis), 2) to exclude subjects with unwanted disorders that may confound analysis (e.g., to exclude substance abusers from a study of antisocial personality), and 3) to characterize more accurately the subjects in samples with mixed diagnosis.
In diagnosis of substance - related disorders, DSM-IV distinguished between substance lise disorders and substance - induced disorders for each of the major categories of addictive substance. Substances use disorders are divided into dependence and abuse disorders. Dependence may be further specified by noting the presence of physiological dependence.

The co-morbid psychiatric disorders with substance use disorders range

from 15-75% of cases. In view of the above, accurate and precise diagnosis of

substance use disorders and their co-morbid psychiatric disorders is an important issue to be studied.
