INTERLEUKIN-4 IN ATOPIC DISEASES AMONG EGYPTIAN INFANTS AND CHILDREN

Abstract


This study was conducted in order to evaluate the role of

-• interleukin-4 in the pathogenesis of atopic diseases in infants and children.


The study included 30 infants and children with atopic diseases selected from the Pediatric Department Of Ain-Shams University Hospital . They included 20 children suffering from bronchial asthma and I 0 cases with atopic dermatitis . Another 10 healthy children of comparable age and sex to the patients were also included as a control group .


All children were subjected to the following :

1-Full history taking .

2-Complete clinical examination .

3-Routine laboratory investigations .

4-Estimation of serum IgE level .

5-Estimation of serum interleukin-4 level .



The study revealed significant increase of both serum levels of IgE and interleukin-4 in bronchial asthma and atopic dermatitis cases when compared to the controls . However, no significant differences in serum level of both parameters were found between both groups of patients.
