Abstract
lacenta previa has been a rising maternal and foetal life threatening condition. It occurs due to abnormal invasion of the uterine wall. It is classified according to histopathology in to accreta showing extensive invasion of the endometrium, increta showing invasion of the myometrium and percreta showing penetration of the uterine wall.
The incidence of placenta previa has been rising mainly due to increased rates of caesarean deliveries, uterine curettage, myomectomy, increased maternal age and smoking.
Patients with history of placenta previa in previous pregnancies have higher risk factor for recurrence in subsequent pregnancies.
