Design of Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams Using Nonlinear Finite Element Method

Shaimaa Mostafa Ahmed Mostafa;

Abstract

There are many design codes namely, American Concrete Institute “ACI 318-17”, The Egyptian Code of Practice for Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures “ECP 203-2018”, European Standards Code , Indian Standards “IS 456”, British Standards “BS 8110”, and Canadian Standards Association “CSA 2004” that provide a detailed illustration for the design of deep beams. The strut and tie method (STM) is an effective method for the deep beams design but this method hasn’t been widely implemented yet for these reasons; the fixation of an optimum truss configuration for a structural member with a given loading is difficult, the approximation and complexity of the solution, the inability of prediction the failure mode of deep beams.
