EFFECT OF INTENSE PULSED LIGHT ON OXIDATIVE STRESS IN ACNE VULGARIS

Amany Amin Mostafa Matar;

Abstract

A
cne vulgaris is a near universal cutaneous inflammatory disease affecting about 85% of adolescents worldwide, may cause many negative physical and psychological problems. Although acne is not a fatal disease, it can persist throughout life and leave permanent scarring (Williams et al. 2012).
The pathogenesis of acne is complex and multifactorial: pubertal androgenic stimulation of the sebaceous gland which is considered a major role while follicular hyperkeratosis, increased colonization with Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes), inflammation, dietary and lifestyle factors in genetically susceptible individuals contribute additionally in variable proportions (Suh et al., 2015). It is clear that these processes are all interrelated since sebum is necessary for P.acnes colonization of the skin and P.acnes is essential in activating the innate and adaptive immune system resulting in inflammation (Dawson et al., 2013). It has been shown that oxidative stress is involved in the pathophysiology of acne (Sahib et al., 2013).
