Laparoscopic gynecological procedures : El- Minia University Hospital experience

Khaled Ali Fahmy Badr Zahran;

Abstract

The continually changing definition of operative laparoscopy as well as the• ever-widening boundaries of its use were discussed in this
study.

The main difficulties with Japaroscopy emanate from the necessity to insufflate the peritoneal cavity or extraperitoneal space with gas, and
access the space via needle and trocar inserted -through the abdominal
• wall. Surgeon-related difficulties include eye and hand coordination and the remote nature of the surgical manipulation, loss of direct hand manipulation and tactile feedback and the two dimensional Image
provided by the current camera systems. Diathermy injuries are a particular potential hazard. However, appropriate training and experience, open technique Japaroscopy, and the development of better instrumentation including three-dimensional video-endoscopy and
exploratory ultrasound probe will minimize these difficulties.

This study included 197 women recruited from the outpatient clinic of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of El-Minia University Hospital, with an age range of 17 - 40 years and a median age of 28 years. Their parity ranged between 0 and 6 with a median of 3. Body
mass Index of the studied patients ranged between 21.1 to 33 kg/m2 with

a median of 28 kg/m2 .

The studied patients were grouped into four mam groups, 61 women with ectopic pregnancy, 59 women with intrapelvic adhesions,
22 women with missed contraceptive device and 55 women with adnexal swelling.
