STUDY OF OCCURRENCE AND MANAGEMENT OF FOREIGN BODY INHALATION CASES IN ASSIUT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS

Abstract


This work displayed all the cases presenting with history and/or clinical picture of foreign body inhalation a'dmitted to Assiut University Hospitals in the period from march 200 I to march 2002.


They were I 06 patients, 78 males and 28 females, and their ages ranged from 1.1 months to 18 years.


Ninety-eight of our cases presented with history of foreign body inhalation, on the other hand 8 cases presented with negative history of foreign body inhalation.


The symptoms of the patients ranged between cough (90 patients) and/or wheezes (95 patients) and/or respiratory distress (87 patients) and finally only three patients were asymptomatic.


On chest examination, we find diminished air entry on either side of the chest in 28 cases, and/or wheezes in 90 patients and/or ••c->piratory distress in 85 cases and finally local examination was clinically free in five patients.
