STRENGTHENING OF DEFICIENT RC COLUMNS SUBJECTED TO CONCENTRIC AND ECCENTRIC LOADS
ABDELRAHMAN HAZEM MOHAMED EBRAHIM;
Abstract
In this research, different techniques of repair of deficient R.C. columns are compared. These include Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) sheets, steel jackets, and R.C. jackets. Two main variables were considered, the load eccentricity and the strengthening technique. The experimental investigation includes testing of eight deficient columns. The specimens were tested under axial concentric and eccentric loading. The experimental results showed that CFRP wrapping, steel jackets and R.C. jackets increased the ultimate capacity by 27 %, 55 %, and 107 %, respectively in concentric loading case and by 30 %, 167 %, and 187 %, respectively in eccentric loading case. RC jacket technique showed the highest value in ultimate load and initial stiffness in both cases of loading, also CFRP wrapping technique significantly improved ductility and toughness achieving the highest mid transverse displacement than other specimens in both cases of loading.
