FORMATION EVALUATION AND SUBSURFACE STUDIES IN THE AREA NORTH OF OCTOBER FIELD - GULF OF SUEZ, EGYPT
Aref Adel Lashin;
Abstract
The aim of the present study is to give a complete evaluation of the Lower Miocene As!and Hawara Formations in the area north of October field through the study of the petrophysical characteristics of 12 wells (9 for complete logging analyses and 3 for correlation and matching) along with some geochemical and seismic characteristics. As! Formation is subdivided into two zones; upper zone consists mainly of marl (As! Marl) and lower zone of complete sand body (As! Sand). As! Sand section is regarded as the main oil reservoir in the study area, while As! Marl section along with Hawara Formation, which is composed mainly
of shales, were regarded as possible source rocks.
Nine wells both vertical and deviated are used mainly for complete petrophysical analysis (J2STI, J3A, J4ST2, J5, J6A, J7A, NO 159-1, NO 159-2 and GS 172-2). Another three wells were also used for correlation and matching. Complete logging dataset is used in this study. The available Electric logs like; Sonic, Density, Neutron, Gamma Ray, Resistivity logs, Caliper, Dipmeter log...etc were used, this is besides some geochemical measurements and velocity records.
Different logging software were used in this study for achieving the final interpretations such as Well Cad 2.7, Rock Work 2002, GeoFrame 4.7
Package...etc. The available data in the form of different electrical logs and well velocity survey records were stored in ASCI, DAT and LAS formats.
A complete quantitative petrophysical analyses were preformed over the two studied formations. Many petrophysical parameters were used like; shale volume (Vsh), porosities (¢1 and ¢err), fluid saturations (Sw, Sx0, Sg, Sh, Shr, and Shm), lithology volumes (Ys.s. VL.S...etc), pay cut-offs, source rock analysis (TOC).
