CLINICAL AND IMMUNOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY OF ORAL MUCOSAL LESIONS IN PATlENl'S WITH VIRAL HEPATITIS C
AMANY NOUR EL-DIN ABDELLATIF;
Abstract
Viral hepatitis represents a significant public health problem a l l over the world.
Hepatitis C infection has been implicated aa leading known cause of l i ver diseases, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Hepatitis C infection not only cause l iver diseases but s hows extrahepatic manife. tations and immunological disorders.
The aim of the present work is to study extrahepatic oral lesions that present with viral hepatitis C, as well as to detect HCV in the cells of these lesions and to find the role of this virus in their pathogenesis.
This study was appl ied on twenty +ve patients with different oral lesions.
Clinical and histopathological diagnoses revealed one case of leukoplakia m verrrlitian border of lower lip, one case of fibrosarcoma in the maxilla and two cases of lichen planus one in buccal mucosa and the other included buccal and lingual mucosa.
Out of all extrahepatic oral lesions, sixteen cases of SCC with different grades were resided. Three well differentiated SCC, two poorly
differentiated sec and eleven moderate differentiated sec.
Immunohistoc h emical assay as well as tissue PCR were used to detect the presence of viral C particles within the cells of these lesions
