Evaluation of Nurses Performance of Standardized Palliative Care for Oncology Children

Eman Shaban Salah Hamad;

Abstract

Standardized palliative care is aimed at relieving suffering, improving quality of life, providing comfort and dignity for patients who are living with an advanced life threatening illness or are bereaved through vigilant control of symptoms and restoration of functional capacity while remaining sensitive to personal ,cultural and religious values, beliefs and practices (Al-Hajery et al., 2018).
Evaluation of standardized palliative care should be comprehensive and patient-centered, with a focus on the central role of the family unit in decision-making. Palliative care affirms life by supporting the patient and family’s goals for the future, including their hopes for cure or life-prolongation, as well as their hopes for peace and dignity throughout the course of illness, the dying process and death. Palliative care aims to guide and assist the patient and family in making decisions that enable them to work toward their goals during whatever time they have remaining (Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, 2016).
