Evaluating the Susceptibility of three different Root Canal Sealers to Degradation by salivary lipase: An in vitro study

MAHMOUD LOTFY ELGHARIB;

Abstract

This study aims to examine the degradability and susceptibility of MTA Fillapex, Endosequence BC, and AH plus sealers to enzymatic hydrolysis action of salivary lipase.

The study will be an in vitro trial that will be applied on sealer substrate discs submitted into groups and followed up after 96 hours then after 1 month. Stainless steel ring molds with an inner diameter of 10 mm and a height of 1.5 mm are used for each sealer, the ring molds were supported by a glass plate covered with a cellophane sheet and then the materials were mixed according to the manufacturer’s instructions and packed into them, each mold is filled with the sealer to be tested, and a glass plate wrapped with the cellophane sheet was placed on top.

The whole assembly is left till complete setting of each sealer according to the manufacturer as follows:
• MTA Fillapex sealer: mix equal volumes of both pastes. After mixing, the homogenous mix was transferred using a spatula to load the circular ring till the rim. Since complete setting is moisture dependent so a filter paper is dampened with water and placed over the mold before placing the glass slab on top its Setting time is 130 minutes
