Comparison between Stented and Non Stented TIP Urethroplasty for Distal Hypospadias

Mohamed Sherif Samy;

Abstract

ypospadias is a congenital abnormality of the penis and the urethra. Its incidence rate is reported to be about 1 in 300 male live births. In hypospadias, the distal urethra does not develop normally, and the urethral meatus lies somewhere along the ventral surface of the penis between the glans and the perineum. Surgical treatment is necessary, and more than 300 operation techniques have been described for primary hypospadias. The objective of all of these methods is the formation of a functionally normal urethra and a cosmetically acceptable penis. Among these procedures to correct distal penile hypospadias there are the tubularized incised plate urethroplasty (TIP repair), Thiersch-Duplay, Mathieu’s repair, Mustarde, and MAGPI.
The Snodgrass technique and its modifications have become the treatment of choice for all types of hypospadias (Snodgrass, 1994; Snodgrass and Lorenzo, 2002). The Snodgrass technique, or tubularized incised plate (TIP) urethroplasty, is a single-stage, simple surgical technique with good cosmetic results and a low complication rate (Snodgrass, 1994).
Every drainage procedure from an indwelling bladder catheter to suprapubic catheters have been used but the most widely used drainage procedure today is placing a stent across the junction of the urethra and neourethra draining the urine to the outside on voluntary micturition. These stents are traditionally
