Mohamed Gamal El-deen Hassan;

Abstract

upus nephritis (LN) is a severe manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with significant morbidity and mortality. It affects approximately 60% of SLE patients, with 10% progressing to end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Early prediction and diagnosis of lupus nephritis (LN) are of great importance to prevent progressive deterioration in renal functions & improve the survival.
The aim of this study to correlate the association between elevated serum uric acid levels and development of lupus nephritis in SLE patients with normal renal functions by comparing that with non lupus nephritis SLE patients.
The study was carried out on 60 SLE patients collected from Inpatient department and outpatient clinic of Rheumatology department at Al Demerdash Hospital, Ain Shams University. Patients were divided into 2 groups of 30 each; SLE with LN group & SLE without LN group.
All Patients were subjected to full history, clinical examination, investigations including measurement of serum uric acid level & renal biopsy (in LN group).
Our study showed that serum uric acid is elevated in SLE patients with LN group compared with SLE patients without
