MATERNITY NURSES KNOWLEDGE ABOUT TETANUS NEONATORUM IN DAKAHLIA GOVERNORATE

Abstract
Tetanus neonatorum is a maJor cause of avoidable morbidity and mortality of neonates. It is a disease of wide distribution and its problem is of major importance m many countries worldwide and in developing countries in particular.
Immunization with tetanus toxoid, however effective and desirable, can not replace hygiene and clean cord handling techniques, especially
during delivery. Hence the need for the training of birth attendants

especially nurses in its prevention and improved maternity care is vital in the reduction of neonatal tetanus.
The present study was conducted to assess the maternity nurse•s knowledge about tetanus neonatorum in Dakahlia Governorate.
Four settings, representing different health organizations, which provide maternity care, were chosen for collection of data. These are EI Mansoura University Hospital, General Health Hospital affiliated to Ministry of Health (M.O.H) in EI-Mansoura.
Eight Central Hospitals, Aga, Elsembelawen, Met Ghamer, Dekirnes, Sherbeen, Nabarow, and Bilquas.
Nine M.C.H. Centers namely El-Mansoura, Aga, Elsembelawen, Met Ghamer, Dekirnes, Sherbeen, Nabarow, Bilquas, and Talkha.
